All the Small Things

I have been at home in good ole Grace for the past week spending time with the fam. In my days here I realized something. I realized that it is the small, simple things in life that really matter. This rang clear to me Monday on a trip to Pocatello with Dad, Chase, and Hailey.

Dad had went into Mother dear's new place of work and we were waiting in the car listening to music, when Hailey spotted an adorable little kid sliding down the hill on the edge of the parking lot on his bottom. She looked at me with a sparkle in her eye and said "Let's do it!" So, she and I ran over to the hill and proceeded to roll down it! If you have spent much time with me walking around the UofU campus you know that I LOVE rolling down hills. I believe it stems from spending much of my time at Little League baseball games in Lava Hot Springs rolling down the hill in the outfield with all the other kids. It was so much fun! We were having a grand old time when an idea struck me... if we moved the car closer to hill we could roll down it with the music blasting! So, much to the confusion of both Hailey and Chase (who chose not to join us in our hill-rolling adventure), I moved the car. They then realized my train of thought and we had a dance party right there in the parking lot. It lasted until Dad came out and said with a smile on his face, "You guys are a bunch of dorks." Yes Dad, we are dorks, but we learned it from the best. :)

This little experience brought so much joy to my heart. It was simply dancing, rolling down the hill, and spending time with my brother and sister that reminded me that we don't need big trips, new things, or anything thing else to make us happy. For me, all it takes is some simple family time. Whether the family time is watching a movie, playing baseball, or a rousing game of pinochle, it doesn't matter. You know that cliche statement at the end of the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder-Day Saints' commercials. You know the one... "Family, isn't it about... Time" This week I have seen and felt what spending time with family can do for one's psyche.
